Duties
Observe the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards . Provide technical advice to industrial or managerial personnel regarding design, construction, program modifications, or structural repairs. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Perform field engineering and office engineering services including: Prepare daily reports. Coordinate testing. Review and comment on submittals and other correspondence. Monitor grouting, pipe installation earthwork placement, concrete placement, tunneling, and other heavy civil works construction activities. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety, observing and documenting the work performed. Compile and evaluate quality control test data. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and labor to support evaluation of project costs. Perform engineering analyses as directed by project engineers. Prepare layouts in CAD and GIS to illustrate concepts under the direction of others. Prepare memoranda and portions of engineering reports under the direction of others. Use various computer programs and spreadsheets to solve problems under the direction of others. Perform Resident Project Representative for construction projects.
Requirements:
Master’s* Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering or related field of study. One (1) year related experience as a Construction Supervisor, Project Engineer, Engineering Intern, or related occupation. Experience is required and must include: Reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications, which includes the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret technical, sequencing, scheduling, and other requirements of contract documents to determine if the work being performed is in accordance with the contract documents and technical specifications; Understanding plan, section, profiles, and details on drawings to determine if the contractor is constructing the work according to the drawings and to understand how work needs to be constructed; Confirming work is built to the dimensions, thicknesses, and grades on the drawings and that the reinforcing steel and other materials are installed as defined on the drawings; and Communicating effectively with contractors and other field and engineering staff including the ability to explain the requirements in the technical specifications and design drawings to the contractor and be able to communicate to the contractor when the work is not meeting the requirements of the contract. $105,581/year *The employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years related experience in lieu of a Master’s degree and 1 year of experience. Work from Home is allowed on Fridays. Domestic travel is required 50% of the time.
