GEOTECHNICAL AND WATER
RESOURCES ENGINEERING

Dams and reservoirs require a variety of different types of instrumentation to meet dam safety requirements, evaluate design performance, and measure water exchanges and reservoir storage.

Instrumentation is critical to monitoring the performance of the embankments including: seepage through the foundation and embankment materials, movement of the embankment, and settlement of fill and structures.

Instrumentation is also used to measure and record reservoir inflows and releases and to monitor reservoir elevation. Understanding and interpreting data from the various instruments is critical to evaluate if the facility is functioning per its design intent.

We have experience with designing, installing, and monitoring multiple types of instrumentation including:

·  Geotechnical
·  Piezometers – vibrating wire and open stand pipe
·  Tilt meters
·  Inclinometers
·  Settlement sensors
·  Monitoring points
·  Hydrologic and hydraulic
·  Flow meters
·  Staff gages – vertical and inclined
·  Stream gages
·  Structural
·  Strain gages
·  Thermistors
·  Concrete maturity and temperature loggers

RJH has designed, installed, or monitored instrumentation on the following projects:
